India has been the land of mysteries and paranormal activities. Many parts and states of India are still considered to be haunted or abrupt for human beings to stay or live. While some stories could be claimed to have been made up, till some of the still existing archaeological sites which have particular banned visiting hours, every historical site has some or the other story hidden behind them. India being a place rich in stories and ancient fables, a lot many places in this country have had mysterious happenings which remains unexplained till date. There are rumors to proofs and witnesses, yet there is always something spooky and unbelievable about some of these particular places. So here is the list of some of the most haunted places which still exist in India and which are still visiting by thousands of people each day and are popular places till date.

Built in the year 1613 by the great Kind Madho Singh, the son of great Mughal General Man Singh of Amber, this site is one of the oldest and scariest forts existing in India. This fort is believed to have been cursed by a famous Tantrik, Guru Balu Nath, which basically restricting or stopped people from building roofs over their houses. Only temples and other holy shrines were allowed to have a roof, else the whole place consisted of houses with no roof tops. The place is still believed to have witnessed break downs of a couple of houses with roof tops, and the locals there also believe that people who visit the fort after dark have returned. Due to some unexplained disappearances, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has banned the entry of visitors in this fort after sunset, and there is a board right outside this fort stating and warning about the same.

The GP Block in Meerut is now one deserted lone lane in some corner of the city. It is a double storey building which is deserted and without any occupancy. People have claimed to see the spirits of four boys sitting at the edge of the terrace of that building. Others have claimed to have seen a woman coming out of the building in a red saree. The other locals also have apparently seen or witnessed the sight of four boys sitting around a table lit by a candle in the centre, and having beer. Such strange happenings and encounters have led to people avoiding that route at all, and today no one passes by this unknown yet haunted place.

This beach is one beautiful beach in the city of Surat in Gujarat. This lovely place is known to be haunted as some people have mysteriously disappeared from this beach while taking a walk along the same beach during the night. This place is claimed to have been the place where ancient Hindus used to bury dead bodies for their funeral. The spirits of those dead bodies are said to have been lurking around this place since then, mysteriously whispering to people to not go forward and warning them to leave the beach and go back. A lot of whispering sounds have been reported from this beach, under very mysterious circumstances. There has been occurrences of paranormal activities taking place in this beach, the reason which remains unexplained till date. Today known to be the residence of the spirit or lurking ghost of the British Army Major Burton, this palace once belonged to a very reputed Rajasthan princely family. Major Burton was killed by the Indian sepoys in the 1857 Mutiny. His sons were also killed in the battle by the Indian sepoys. Therefore, this place is believed to be haunted by the Major. There has been an existing myth that if any security guard is found sleeping or been lax during this duty time, the spirit or ghost of the Major comes and slaps the sleeping guard, alerting him to perform his duties.

The Dow Hill region is a lush green forest, with people claiming this place to have a very spooky and eerie feeling and atmosphere around it. With a very unfavourable and scary ambience, the locals of this region are believed to have seen a headless boy walking among the forest and then have seen him disappearing into the trees. It is also rumoured that some mysterious sounds of footsteps have been heard very frequently from the corridors of the Victoria Boys School during the December- March vacations. People have witnessed a lady clad in a white sari down the Delhi Cantt road, especially at nights where she is seen to ask for lifts to alone passengers in cars or bikes. On refusing to give her a lift, the ghost of this lady starts chasing that vehicle with the same speed, or sometime even faster than the speed of the vehicle. She is believed to have been a hitchhiker while she was alone, hence her ghost still lurks around the forest asking lifts from alone passers-by.

The residents there have seen and witnessed an apparition of the ghost of the lady, though many people believe that the spirit is completely harmless.

This tunnel is claimed to have been haunted by the spirit or ghost of an Englishmen during the really olden times. The ghost resides inside and he answers any questions asked while being inside the tunnel. This film studio is believed to have been built on the war grounds of the Nizams. Thus, this place is believed to be haunted by the ghosts and spirits of the dead soldiers. Mysterious events and occurrences have been reported in this film city such as observance of torn clothes, camera-men falling off the high bars while shooting a movie, disturbance in the movie such as lights falling off the ceiling, bathroom doors being knocked and banged heavily at times, and shadows seen in the changing room.

This fort was built by a Maratha Emperor for a Peshwa heir in 1747. On a new moon night, this 13 year old Peshwa dynasty heir, Narayana was brutally assassinated by one of his own relative. While his relative was chasing him on the ground of this fort, the boy was running all over the fort shouting and crying out for help. People say that even till today, his shouts and cries of help could still be heard among the walls of the fort, especially on every new moon night. The full moon nights are considered to be even scarier due to some more mysterious mishaps and occurrences.
